Thanthai Periyar Government Arts & Science College

The Government of Tamil Nadu initiated Computer Literacy Programme in all Government Colleges to enrich the basic computer knowledge of all Under Graduate non-computer students from 2000-2001.

Computer Literacy Programme (CLP) is made compulsory for all the first years except Computer Science students. As most of our students hail from rural areas and semi-urban areas, these programmes enrich them with the use of computers.

  • All the first year U.G students, except those studying B.Sc. Computer science undergo this training.
  • Classes are conducted with five well qualified staff members.
  • A common statewide examination is conducted every year by DCE .
  • Qualified students are given certificates which can be registered with the employment exchange.
  • It enhances the employment opportunities for the students.
  • The CLP Laboratory has 75 computers with Internet connection.
  • Internet connection exclusively meant for the students of the CLP.
  • A Committee comprising three staff members with Principal is administrating this programme.

Tamil Nadu Nan Mudhalvan Programme

The primary goal of the Tamil Nadu Naan Mudhalvan Scheme is to identify, train, and provide career and academic guidance to talented students enrolled in government-run and state-run educational institutions. Through this program, Tamil Nadu students will have access to instruction that will assist them in attaining their career objectives.

This program will make Tamil Nadu scholars independent. In addition, the standard of living of students will improve under this program. With the implementation of this program, gifted students will receive appropriate guidance that will assist them in choosing the correct career path.

Naan Mudhalvan skill development papers were introduced into the curriculum of UG courses from the year 2023 -2024 as per the TANSCHE Guidelines.

“Naan Mudhalvan” Phase – I TCS iON - Industry Honor Course

Introduction

Under the “Naan Mudhalvan” Phase – I initiative, Thanthai Periyar Government Arts and Science College, Tiruchirappalli – 23 has successfully conducted the first-ever TCS Industry Honor Course (IHC). The initiative witnessed 159 students from B.Sc. (Computer Science), BCA, and M.Sc. (Computer Science) participating in the National Qualifier Test (NQT), paving the way for the selection of 37 candidates for specialized technical courses.

National Qualifier Test Results

Out of the 159 students who took the National Qualifier Test, 37 emerged successfully in securing positions for advanced technical courses. The breakdown includes 13 students for B.Sc. (Computer Science), 17 for BCA, and 7 for M.Sc. (Computer Science).

TCS iON Courses and Internships

All the selected 37 students have been allotted TCS iON courses and internships as follows:

  • B.Sc. (Computer Science): 13 students
  • BCA: 17 students
  • M.Sc. (Computer Science): 7 students

Selected Courses

The students selected for IHC were enrolled in diverse technical courses covering areas such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Cyber Security, Data Analytics, and Cloud Computing. These courses, conducted online from September 2022 to February 2023 through Digital Lecture (DL) and self-paced learning material.

IHC enhance the participants’ skills through a blend of academic and industry-specific content.

Campus Interview and Placements

A campus interview held on January 12, 2023, resulted in the selection of five students for placements. Among them, three students secured positions from BCA, and two from B.Sc. (Computer Science). This achievement highlights the excellence of students and the effectiveness of the courses in preparing them for industry demands.

Graduate Trainees at TCS Cochin

Further showcasing the success of the TCS Industry Honor Course, it is noteworthy that three students, namely

  • S. Santhoshkumar – 20SCS14 (III –B. Sc. Computer Science (Shift – II))
  • Priyadharsan – 20RCN23 (III –BCA)
  • Sangeeswaran, – 20RCN26 (III –BCA)

are currently employed at TCS Cochin as Graduate Trainees. This accomplishment not only reflects the students’ competence but also emphasizes the industry-readiness instilled through the course.

Acknowledgments

The success of the TCS Industry Honor Course initiative is attributed to the dedication and guidance provided by Dr. P. S. Vijayalakshmi, Principal, Prof. T. Kannadasan, Head & Associate Professor in Computer Science, mentorship provided by Ms. Roslin Mary, Associate Professor, Single Point of Contact (SPOC), Department of Computer Science, along with the guidance from faculty mentors Dr. H. Conclusion

The TCS Industry Honor Course at Thanthai Periyar Government Arts and Science College, Tiruchirappalli – 23 has not only set a precedent but also demonstrated the effectiveness of integrating industry-relevant skills into the academic curriculum. The success stories of the selected students, including those now working as Graduate Trainees at TCS Cochin, underscore the impact of such initiatives in fostering career-ready individuals. As the courses progress, it is anticipated that more students will benefit from this unique collaboration between “Naan Mudhalvan” Phase – I and TCS.
