PG and Research Department of Botany

The Department of Botany was established with B. Sc. Botany from 1969-70. M. Sc Botany was then launched in 2003-04 and from 2009 it got elevated as a Research Department with Ph. D (Full Time & Part Time) ) programme. The UG and PG course offered in the department provides an introduction to the classification, relationships, structure and function of plants at their respective levels. Topics include reproduction and development of seed and non-seed plants, levels of organization, form and function of systems and a survey of major taxa. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate comprehension of plant form and function, including selected taxa of both seed and non-seed plants. The laboratory exercises are coordinated with lecture topics and include field exercises.

We have necessary infrastructure to cater the needs of basic experiments included in the curriculum. A tissue culture lab with required gadgets and space is available. The Department Library has nearly 3000 books and a Multimedia enabled LCD projector hall is available for ICT based lectures.
