PG and Research Department of Mathematics
The Department of Mathematics of Periyar E.V.R College was started as one of the earliest departments in the year 1965. Post Graduate Course wasstarted during the year 1978-1979. The Department waselevated into a research department by offering M.Phil. (FT/PT) and Ph.D. (FT/PT) programmes during the year2007-2008. Our department has dedicated, well qualified, and experienced 13 faculty members. Among them 10 staff members are having doctoratedegree and one staff member submitted Ph.D.thesis to the university and onemore staffmember pursuing Ph.D.degree. In addition to that 6 faculty members passed NET/SLET. Bharathidasan University recognized 8 faculty members as Research Supervisors for Ph.D.programmeand 11 faculty members for M.Phil. programme. Atpresent the department is full- fledged research department. Further we do research activities in various applications of Mathematics. Our department has produced 16doctorates. Many eminent mathematicians have delivered lectures indifferent areas of mathematics.The department teaches to almost all branches of science and to integrate and create awareness that all advanced topics lead to mathematics. The department makes the students think individually, analytically and makes them to solve real life problems through mathematical tools and models. The department is equipped with EduSat and NRC (Network Resource Centre). So far, one minor project and one student project were carried out in the department.
Our Department has organized workshop and many seminars in the recent past.One of our staff member received the following awards; Yeo Man Service Award 2003, Best YRC District Organizer Award 2004 – 2005, Bharat Ratna Mother Teresa Gold Medal Award 2016 , National Citizenship Gold Medal Award 2016, Best Scientist Award 2016, Distinguished Faculty Award 2016.
