Statistics

The Department of Statistics was established with B.Sc. Statistics in 1980-1981. M.Sc.Statistics was introduced in 1995-1996.The Department was recognizedas a Research Department in 1994-1995 with M.Phil (Full Time and Part Time) and Ph.D. (Part-Time) degree Programmes. The objective of the course is to produce dynamic and potential Statisticians and inculcate moral, social and ethical values to become good Indian citizens. The curriculum includes practical applications of Statistics in various fields.

The department is well equipped with a furnished computer laboratory with required software for practical training to the students. The Department Library is housed with nearly 2500 books. Multimedia LCD Projector facilities are available in the department. The staff members are effectively utilizing ICT tools to prepare teaching and learning materials for the all the subjects of UG, PG and M.Phil Programmes.

The Department has nine regular teaching faculty members and one guest lecturer. They are appointed by the Government of Tamil Nadu recruited through Teachers Recruitment Board. Among them eight are PhD holders. The faculty members act as mentors, guiding the students to develop the necessary subject knowledge and social skills required to become successful person in the society. They are also involved in research activities in various fields like Statistical Quality Control, Statistical Inference, Bio-Statistics, Applied Statistics, Stochastic Processes, etc., The Department often organizes seminars, meetings and invited lectures.
