The Department of Visual Communication was started in the year 2004. Over these years the department has been able to establish itself as one of the most productive Visual Communication department in Trichy. The department has well qualified and experienced faculty. The department has a strong alumni working in the media industry. The department organizes a number of events during the academic year which includes workshop, seminars, exhibitions, film festivals, field visits etc. The department has signed MOU with makkal kural and trinity mirror newspaper for placements and internships. The department also brings out a monthly lab journal- “The EVR Times”

The department offers papers that are innovative, competitive and updated according to industry requirements. The course offers a platform to transform theory into practical experience in order to help students meet the needs of media industry. The aim is to produce socially responsible media persons who can contribute to the society. The subjects offered are Communication Skills, Advertising, Visual Literacy, Art and Aesthetics, Photography, Television Production, Script Writing, Participatory Communication, Media for Society, Development Communication, Media Research , Graphic Designing, 2D animation, Short film and Documentary making Film Studies.

The department offers a 3 years Bachelor Degree and 2 years Master degree in Visual Communication, where students are guided to understand and explore the media industry. With more emphasis on how visuals are used to communicate in the media production, the programme introduces the students to a range of fields in media.

They are taught Visual Literacy, Advertising, Photography, Graphic Designing, Art and Aesthetics, Reporting and Editing, Film Studies, Script Writing, Television Production, Public Relations, Animations, Media research, Visual Analysis, Media laws and ethics, short film and documentary making with both theoretical and practical exposure.

Career prospects are wide in this field. They can also join as Graphic designers, animators, web designers, professional photographers, film makers, cinematographers, editors, journalists, television producers. They can also work in advertising agency, event management and public relation offices. The best feature of this course is that students can be self employed by having their own company on advertising, designing or have a photo-video studio and can also venture into film making.
